Philippines COVID Cases: Stay Informed with the Latest Updates and Trends

During the week from December 12 to December 18, the Department of Health (DOH) reported a concerning surge in COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, totaling 2,725 new infections. The DOH’s weekly bulletin underscored a 50% increase in the average daily case count compared to the preceding week (December 5 to December 11). Of these new cases, 16 were identified as severe and critical conditions, adding to the gravity of the situation.

Regrettably, the same period witnessed 16 confirmed COVID-19-related deaths, with 13 occurring between December 5 and December 18. Hospitals grappled with 211 severe and critical cases, constituting 8.8% of the total COVID-19 admissions in the country.

The strain on medical facilities was further elucidated, with 12.9% of the 1,101 ICU beds for COVID-19 patients in use and 18.3% occupancy in the 10,045 non-ICU beds.

As of December 15, the cumulative COVID-19 cases in the country reached 4,128,961, with 4,334 active cases reported. Notably, 78.4 million people in the Philippines have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with approximately 23.8 million receiving booster doses.

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, leader of the Senate health committee, is contemplating a review of the country’s health protocols in response to the escalating cases and influenza-like illnesses. Additionally, on December 13, the Philippine General Hospital reinstated mandatory face mask wearing within its premises as a preventive measure to curb the virus’s spread.
